Our products for a more sustainable future

In addition to making our business operations more sustainable, our products are of course also very important. Here too, we have already taken an important step by examining the SolidScreens and drop arm awnings and markisolettes for its environmental effects. We do this by means of a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), also known as a ‘cradle to grave’ analysis. This is a method for determining the total environmental impact of a product throughout its entire life cycle, e.g., from the extraction of the necessary raw materials, transport, production, use of the product and, at the end, the method of waste disposal.

SolidScreens included in the
National and International Environmental Database!

National and International Environmental Database

The national government would like the environmental impact of buildings to be reduced through the use of sustainable materials. Every product has an effect on the environment to a greater or lesser extent and all the effects of the construction products used in a construction work are referred to as the environmental performance of a construction work. The national government has developed a determination method whereby all environmental performance of each construction product is calculated in the same way. Central to the determination method is the National Environmental Database, in which all environmental calculations of construction products are collected. The database serves as a data source for all calculation instruments in which the environmental performance of a structure is determined. The method is based on the life cycle analysis (LCA) of a construction product. The recognized expert must then test the data on the basis of the Testing Protocol.

The SolidScreen is the first in the market to be available in the National Environmental Database as of February 18, 2022. All environmental product declarations (EPD) for building materials can be found in this database. Architects need this data to calculate the environmental performance of buildings in accordance with the legally required Determination Method for Environmental Performance of Buildings. All SolidScreens from our range are now registered in category 1 of the database. This is the highest of the three available categories, which accurately describes the environmental performance of products.

Beside the National database, our products have also been added to the International database: ECO Platform. ECO Platform aims for mainstreaming life-cycle assessments (LCA) for buildings and infrastructure projects by provision of reliable product data in an affordable and effective way. Specific product data in form of verified environmental information of construction products, in particular type III declarations called EPD (Environmental Product Declarations) is preferred as data input for building and construction LCA. With the ECO Portal, ECO Platform is offering a central access point for users to digital European EPD data. With this data being freely accessible, it is possible to make public and private instruments for building LCA mandatory. The product-neutral data can be used for early design stages and for baselining / benchmarking. To learn and read more about this database, go to the link: Home – Eco Platform en (eco-platform.org).

EPD certification SolidScreens

EPD certifications

Since February 2022, all 16 SolidScreens have been calculated by means of LCA analysis on environmental effects and included in the national environmental database. This makes the SolidScreen the first sun protection systems to be included in category 1 data in this database that architects must use to make their environmental calculations.

R&D develops sustainable solar shading systems

Own R&D department

AVZ-Group’s systems are created by demand from the market and thanks to the innovation drive of our employees. Our own technology and development department, possibly in collaboration with the customer, develops ideas into a concrete design. A good balance between ease of assembly, functionality and quality is central to this. As soon as the optimized system meets all requirements, an extensive test period takes place.

Life Cycle Assessment

Digital LCA-tool

Thanks to the EPD webapplication of NIBE, we are able to make our own LCA and EPD’s. An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a standardized way to quantify and communicate the environmental performance of a product in a comparable way. EPDs are based on a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), a method to determine the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire life cycle, e.g., from raw material extraction, production, transport, use and disposal.
